In order to get a reward, I have to finish certain missions. I think it's how humans are wired to evolve.
In the pre-historic era, Homo sapiens and other early human species had to hunt, risk their life, just to survive. If they refused to hunt, they simply didn't eat. There was no escape from responsibility.
Fast forward to today, it's never been easier to just have fun and escape reality. We can play games for hours, watch movies, scroll endlessly, and temporarily be happy. We convince ourselves that we're just "relaxing". We tend to ignore what actually needs to be done.
That, I believe, is what separates ordinary people from outliers.
Outliers often develop a certain mindset early on in their life. If they want something, they have to earn it. Their parents don't easily grant them what they ask. Over time, this practice becomes second nature. They see work as something that needs to be done before fun begins.
But, not all people grew up this way. Delaying gratification might seem alien for some of us. Many of us struggle with avoiding work, even when we know it's urgent, just to have fun. Because fun is easier and more rewarding. Or so it seems.
We're a short-term chaser, not a long-term fighter.
But, that can change. It doesn't have to be like this forever. Every time you have the urge to play games, watch movies, or do something fun, ask yourself, have I done my responsibilities for today? Is there something urgent this week? Is there something important I'm avoiding? Most of the time, the answer is yes. So, push yourself to do what needs to be done now, so that you can enjoy your reward later.
Start with a simple to-do list or a task manager app to stay on track. Either way, start managing your energy like it matters, because it does.
